Some more about the artists
Gabriel Boyce and Preston Link are both local Philadelphia artists. Preston Link is one of the founding members of “Storage”, an alternative art space in South Philly that had it first show entitled, “The South Philadelphia Boat Show” in July of 09′. Gabriel Boyce is an active member at Vox Populi. His last exhibition at Vox was in June of 09′ entitled, “Zues“.
Since January of this year the artists have been making artwork together based off topical news stories. Much like how a reporter investigates a lead, they would see a story and then search for materials to make the work. Their frequent resources for materials include flea markets, sidewalk sales, dollar stores, thrift stores, craigslist and their studios. As a result the work not only describes our culture in content, but also visually. Lastly, their keen sense of humor borderlines from black comedy to obscene humor, which aligns with the title of this show, “Breaking News”.
